FAQ
Installation
Is it hard to install?
Installing Paige Connect is easy and can be done at home by anyone! Please refer to our set up video for step by step instructions.
Are all eleven screws needed?
No, if you are missing one or two screws this should not impact the performance of Paige Connect. Ensure you only tighten the screws at the end so that you can adjust the position of the board to fit all screws. Please refer to our set up video for step by step instructions.
Why are my keys not lowering fully?
If the board is not installed correctly the sensors can block the keys inside. Please refer to our set up video for step by step instructions.
Bluetooth connection
How do I connect my Paige Connect?
Paige Connect appears as a bluetooth keyboard. Head to the settings on your phone, tablet or laptop to pair. Disconnect it before trying to connect to a new device.
Power cable
Why is nothing happening when I connect the USB?
The USB supplied with Paige Connect is for power only. You can power it from any USB socket (battery pack, laptop or mains adapter). You can then connect wirelessly to any device with bluetooth.
Detecting keys
Why is one of my keys not detected?
If the board is not installed correctly the sensors can block the keys inside. Please refer to our set up video for step by step instructions.
Why is the outputted braille not accurate?
Paige Connect has sensors that detect the key levers inside your braille writer. They will only detect a press when the key is fully lowered. Please ensure you are pressing the keys fully down when typing. You can check this by toggling on the musical keys feature on Paige's web app on your laptop (♫).
Braille translation
Why is the braille not appearing?
Please ensure you have selected the text input area on your phone or tablet before typing.
Why is the print translation not appearing?
The print translation will appear after pressing space as the braille is translated word by word. If the translation still does not appear ensure you are connected to the internet and typing meaningful braille.
What braille codes do you support?
Our translation is powered by Liblouis, the braille translator created by the community. If you want a braille code added please contact us at hello@paigebraille.com. Alternatively, Paige Connect is compatible with Duxbury, a braille translation software that can translate braille to print in over 170 languages.
Do you have braille to maths translation?
Currently, our translate tool only supports maths for simple symbols in UEB (+, -, ×, ÷, /, =, <, >, ~). However, Paige Connect should reliably record the braille input which can then be downloaded as a BRF file. We are excited that progress is being made on open-source braille to maths translation and are keen to add support for this when it becomes available.
Spoken feedback
Why can I not hear spoken feedback?
Turn on your screen reader to hear the spoken feedback.
Why does my screen reader say ‘SDFJKL’?
To stop the screen reader from echoing the keyboard keys pressed as well as the interpreted braille characters, disable the echoing of typed characters in your screen reader settings when using Paige Connect.
Device compatibility
Can I use Paige Connect with my phone, tablet or laptop?
Yes, Paige’s web app can be used with any device, browser and screen reader. You can try our freely available software before buying Paige Connect using your keyboard’s SDFJKL keys.
