Fit Paige Connect with the braille writer upside down while holding all keys pressed. Before tightening the screws, move the board side to side until all keys can lower fully. Ensure the braille writer is on a flat surface to prevent Paige Connect from bending.

To stop the screen reader from echoing the keyboard keys pressed as well as the interpreted braille characters, disable the echoing of typed characters in your screen reader settings when using Paige Connect.

Paige Connect translates full words as you type them. You need to press space or a new line for the translation to be displayed. Ensure the braille input is meaningful for accurate translation.

Paige Connect uses Liblouis, an open-source translation software supported by the community. By reporting the problems you encounter, we can share this information with the Liblouis developers to help improve the software.

Alternatively, Paige Connect is compatible with Duxbury, a braille translation software that can translate braille to print in over 170 languages, in either uncontracted or contracted braille.

The translation is not reliable for maths beyond simple symbols in UEB (+, -, ×, ÷, /, =, <, >, ~). However, Paige Connect should reliably record the braille input which can then be downloaded as a BRF file.

We are excited that progress is being made on open-source maths translation by MathCAT! Should braille input be added to MathCAT we will ensure this is made available through our translation tool.
